A blast was reported outside the Bakshiwal police chowki in Gurdaspur district, Punjab on Wednesday night. The police launched an investigation, and a forensic team has been deployed to the scene. While no one has reported hearing the sound of a blast, a burnt patch was found outside the chowki. This incident follows a series of other blasts in Punjab this month, including one at the Islamabad police station in Amritsar on Tuesday. In the Islamabad incident, a hand grenade was thrown at a police post in Nawanshahr on December 2nd. The Khalistan Zindabad Force has claimed responsibility for the alleged attack on the Bakshiwal police chowki.

Two men were beaten up and thrown into a canal in Haryana's Palwal district allegedly by some cow vigilantes, leading to the death of one of the victims. Police have arrested five of the 11 accused. The incident occurred on February 22 when the accused intercepted a truck transporting cattle from Rajasthan to Lucknow on suspicion of cow smuggling. The truck driver and his helper were beaten up and thrown into a canal. While the driver survived, the helper's body was found in the canal on Sunday.

The massive operation, carried out on the directions of Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, was a response to the recent deportation of illegal Indian immigrants by the US. Many of the deportees from Punjab and Haryana have alleged they were duped by travel agents who promised legal entry to the US but instead used the "donkey route" - an illegal and risky pathway. Police have registered 24 FIRs against travel agents and arrested seven. The operation was conducted under the Punjab Travel Professionals' Regulation Act, 2012, which mandates travel agents to obtain a license, maintain records, and comply with other regulations. The police advised citizens to verify travel agents' credentials before entrusting them with documents and money.
